-"All I ever wanted to do was forget. But even when I thought I
had, pieces had kept emerging, like bits of wood floating up to the surface that
only hint at the shipwreck below" (pages 339-340).
-"There comes a time in everyone's life when the world gets
quiet and the only thing left is your own heart. So you'd better learn the sound
of it. Otherwise you'll never understand what it's saying"
(page349).
I chose to read this book because a lot of people suggested that I read
books by Sarah Dessen. They told me that she was a really good author and writes
amazing books for teenagers. I wasn't quite sure if I would like her as an
author, so I started doing some research on her. After doing some research on
Sarah Dessen, I started looking into some of her books. I had read a couple and
they were okay. Then I went to Barnes and Noble and saw Just Listen on the
shelf. It sounded like a really good book and none of friends had read it yet.
After reading a couple pages, I fell in love with it. I talked to one of my
friends into reading it as well, so we could discuss the book. I really enjoyed
it, so I decided to do my book project on it.
I also chose to read the book Just Listen because it was relatable. It
covered topics that a lot of teenagers deal with today. Some of these topics
included; bullying, losing friends, anorexia, and rape. It also talked about
getting help. It mentioned that sometimes it may be hard to tell someone about
what you are going through, but then sometimes it is even harder to hold it all
in. It also talked about how some teenagers use music to fill in silence because
they cannot stand how loud silence was. While reading reviews on the book I
thought, funny, how can silence be loud. After reading the book, I completely
understood what the person who wrote the review meant. I had also looked up a
lot of quotes that were used throughout the book and they seemed well written
and inspiring. After reading a few pages of he book I had fallen in love with
it.
